The US military attacked Iraq and Syria 4 times within a few hours
US forces were attacked four times in Iraq and Syria on Thursday by missiles and armed drones, but there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure, a US military official said.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said US and international forces were attacked by two targets in northeastern Syria with multiple missiles and a unilateral strike drone.
In Iraq, several one-way drones were launched from Ain al-Asad air base west of Baghdad, and a drone was launched from a base housing US forces near Erbil airport in northern Iraq.
A group calling itself the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which analysts believe is an offshoot of several groups armed by Iran, claimed responsibility for attacks on the sites earlier in the day.
The attacks came a day after the US struck the Iranian-backed militant group Kataib Hezbollah, or KH, south of Baghdad in an attack that KH said killed eight members.
The attack was condemned by the Iraqi government as an escalation and a violation of sovereignty.
US officials said the United States struck Iran-linked groups after an escalation in their attacks, which have been carried out dozens of times against US and international forces since October 17, 10 days after the start of the Israel-Hamas war.
As of Thursday, 36 strikes had been carried out in Iraq and 37 in Syria, a US military official said.
