5 Ways ChatGPT Can Enhance, Not Replace, Your Text | WIRELESS

It was quite year for ChatGPT, with a large Language Model (LLM) currently taking exams, creating content, searching the web, writing code and more. An AI chatbot can create its own stories, but how good they are is another matter.

If you’re involved in any way in the writing business, tools like ChatGPT can improve the way you work, but at this stage it’s inevitable that journalists, authors and copywriters will be replaced by generative AI bots.

What we can say with certainty is that ChatGPT is a solid writing aid if you use it the right way. If your job requires you to organize words, here’s how ChatGPT can take your writing to the next level—at least until it replaces you.

Find the correct word

Using a thesaurus as a writer is not particularly frowned upon; nor should you use ChatGPT to find a word or phrase. You can use the bot to search for variations of a particular word, or get even more specific and say you need alternatives that are less or more formal, longer or shorter, and so on.

Where ChatGPT really comes in handy is when you reach for a word and aren’t even sure it exists: ask for “a word that means a feeling of melancholy, but especially one that comes and goes and doesn’t seem to have a single cause,” and you’ll get “boredom” as a sentence (or at least we did).

If you have speaking characters, you can even ask about words or phrases that a person from a certain region, age, or with certain personality traits would typically say. Since this is ChatGPT, you can always ask for more suggestions.

Find inspiration

Whatever you think of the quality and nature of ChatGPT’s prose, it’s hard to deny that it’s pretty good at coming up with ideas. If your imagination is dead, you can turn to ChatGPT for inspiration on plot points, character motivations, scene settings, and so on.

This can be anything from broad to detailed. Maybe you need ideas about what to write a novel or article about – where it takes place, what the context is, and what the topic is. If you write short stories, perhaps you could write five tales inspired by ideas from ChatGPT.

Alternatively, you may need inspiration for something very specific, whether it’s what happens next in a scene or how to summarize an essay. At whatever point in the process you get author block, ChatGPT can be one way to work around it.

Do your research

Writing often is much more than putting words together in order. You’ll have to regularly look up facts, figures, trends, history, and more to make sure everything is accurate (unless your next piece of fiction is set entirely in the fantasy world you imagine).

ChatGPT can sometimes have an advantage over conventional search engines when you need to know what food people might have eaten in a certain year in a certain part of the world, or what the procedure is for a certain type of crime. While Google might give you SEO spam sites with inconsistent answers, ChatGPT will actually return something consistent.
