Workers at st Starbucks and Amazon On Friday, a Go store in midtown Manhattan filed a petition calling for a union election.

It’s the first coffee shop to use Amazon’s cashier-less technology to try to unionize under Workers United, and the second of its kind. The store, located next to the Port Authority and on the first floor of the New York Times building, generates high volume but also has high employee turnover, according to Starbucks Workers United.

In addition to traditional barista tasks, employees must also help customers navigate Amazon Go technology without additional pay, according to the union.

There are now seven unionized Starbucks in New York City. Across the country, more than 250 businesses have voted to form unions, although the number of petitions has slowed in recent months.
