John Wall and the Houston Rockets have agreed that his contract will be redeemed, allowing him to sign with any team of his choice, two people who know the situation said Monday night.

According to one of the people who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, Wall would prefer to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers because the five-time Guard of the Match of the Stars did not publicly announce his intentions.

According to another person who spoke to the AP, Wall will receive from Houston about $ 41 million. Next season, Wall was to earn $ 47.4 million, his last four-year contract.

Yahoo first reported that Wall and the Rockets had come to a buyout decision. ESPN first reported that Wall intends to join the Clippers, presumably to exclude mid-level taxpayers of about $ 6.4 million – basically the same amount he gives to the Rockets to become a free agent. An agreement cannot be concluded between Wall and any team until he clears the waiver and becomes a free agent.

In recent weeks, Wall has coached, including some classes at the University of Miami.

In the 2020/21 season, Wall played Houston in 40 games, averaging 20.6 points and 6.9 assists. He spent his first nine seasons in Washington and averaged 19.1 points and 9.1 assists in 613 regular season games during his career.

Wall has not appeared in a single game for Houston last season. The missiles are being rebuilt around the young nucleus, and Wall, who will turn 32 in September, was not going to be part of their plans for the future.

He was selected for the All-Star Game for five consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2018. Since the last of these elections 4 1/2 seasons ago, he has played exactly 82 games, including the playoffs – the equivalent of one NBA season – while earning $ 150 million and seeing his career fail due to injuries.

The wall has a prolonged injury and a surgical history. He underwent surgery on both knees in 2016, the 2018-19 season ended prematurely due to surgery due to a bone spur on his left heel, then a rupture of his left Achilles tendon required another operation in 2019 and an annual recovery plan.

He has not appeared in an NBA game since April 23, 2021.

The development of the Wall and the Rockets buyout deal comes on the same day that another high-ranking playmaker – Kyrie Irving of Brooklyn – announced he was using his $ 36.9 million option for the final year of his deal with the Nets.

The NBA Free Agency officially opens with talks beginning on Thursday. In most cases, new contracts can be signed from July 6th.
