SALADA, Texas – Just when you thought you could safely return to the water. Summr is almost here, and Salado Texas Volunteer Fire Service says you need to check the noodles for the pool for snakes.
In particular, the fire department is talking about rattlesnakes. Firefighters warn that as temperatures rise in Texas, snakes are looking for a place to cool off.
“It’s only natural that these snakes are looking for a cooler place to live. Snakes are usually looking for dark places, so it is better to keep toys in the pool at a height or in an airtight container, “- warned the department on Facebook.
The department says that if you come across a snake, it is better to retreat slowly and not panic.

How to avoid a snake bite
- When you see a snake, freeze and then slowly retreat. If given the opportunity to escape, they usually will. Do not touch the snake.
- Never try to pick up a snake or try to catch it. Never handle a venomous snake, including a dead or decapitated one.
- Heavy shoes, snake pants, leggings and boots will reduce your chances of being bitten.
If you are bitten
- Keep calm.
- Seek medical attention as soon as possible. Call 911 or your local ambulance service. The antidote is the treatment of snake bites.
- Take a picture of the snake from a safe distance. Identifying snakes will help in healing.
- Provide first aid while waiting for an ambulance.
- If you are bitten by a viper, lie down or sit with your limb raised.
- If you are bitten by a coral snake, keep the affected area at heart level.
- Remove the rings and watch before the swelling begins.
- Wash the bite site with soap and water.
- Cover the bite site with a clean dry bandage.
What not to do if you are bitten
- Don’t drive yourself to the hospital. You may feel dizzy or faint.
- Don’t expect symptoms; get help immediately.
- Do not apply the harness.
- Do not cut the wound or cut it with a knife.
- Do not try to suck out the poison.
- Do not apply ice to the wound and do not immerse it in water.
- Do not drink alcohol to reduce pain.
- Do not take painkillers such as aspirin.
- Do not apply electric shocks and do not try folk remedies.
