SAN ANTONIA – McCollum High School is having a magical season on the softball court and they want it to last as long as possible. The Cowboys prepare to play Corpus Christi Flour Bluff in the Class 5A playoffs with one game at Beaville Jones High School on Friday at 7 p.m.
“Our team, we are preparing as much as we can,” said head coach Alessia Gallegas. “We are trying to find out the game plan and the execution of the game plan. We walk pretty confidently, quite hotly and in the current. We are just excited and trying to attract as many fans as possible to the Bivila area. “
This team became the second in the history of McCollum softball, which reached the 4th round, and the first since 2004.
“I can’t put into words how it feels senior,” Emma Quintera said. “Knowing this is a legacy I leave behind. I am very glad to see how young girls will play if I am not there. “
No matter how this post-season race ends, seniors want to leave the program better than they found it. Moving so far into the postseason is a surefire way to achieve that.

“It means everything because for the past four years, I and other seniors have worked so hard to prepare this program,” said Senior Dominic Gera. “With our new coach, our second year has been a good start, a foundation for us, and we just built it.”
Winners of eight games in a row, including four in the postseason, the Cowboys are aiming to become the first team in the program’s history to reach the 5th round.
