To hear this by actor Ellen Barkin, Johnny Depp was a controlling, jealous and evil man even in the 1990s when they met.
“Where are you going?” Barkin said Depp would ask her. “Who are you going with? What were you doing last night? ”
Barkin added, “One day I had a scratch on my back that made him very, very angry because he insisted that I had sex with a man who wasn’t him.”
Barkin recalled his relationship with Depp while recording testimony that was played out on Thursday in the Virginia courtroom by Depp’s ex-wife’s lawyers, Amber Heard.
Hurd’s lawyers are trying to undermine Depp’s defamation lawsuit against her. Depp says that in a 2018 article written by Hurd in The Washington Post, he unfairly portrayed him as a domestic rapist and cost him a lucrative Hollywood career that included the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Depp testified that he never beat Hurd and that he was a victim of violence on her part. But Hurd’s lawyers say the denials are unreliable because he often drank and used drugs until he lost consciousness.
During Barkin’s testimony, she testified that Depp “always drank or smoked a joint” or took other illegal drugs. She said she had been dating Depp for about three to five months and described the relationship as more sexual than romantic.
Barkin co-starred with Depp in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” During the filming, Barkin said that Depp threw a bottle of wine in her direction while fighting with friends in a hotel room. However, she said she did not know why he dropped the bottle.
Hurd’s lawyers claim that Depp’s career was the result of his bad behavior, not Hurd’s article. They played the testimony of witnesses who showed the rise and fall of the actor from “the biggest movie star in the world” to a man who struggled with drugs, money and the ability to appear on the set in time.
Tracy Jacobs, who has served as the actor’s agent for about 30 years, said Depp “appeared late to consistently star in almost every film” in the final years of their collaboration.
“I was very honest with him and said, ‘You have to stop doing this – it hurts you,'” Jacobs said. “And so it happened.”
Jacobs said Depp was an extraordinary talent, but his behavior in the years before he fired her in 2016 became increasingly unprofessional, while drug and alcohol use increased, Jacobs said.
“And it also cost the city,” Jacobs said. “I mean, people say it’s a small community. And it made people reluctant to use it. “
Joel Mandel, a former Depp business manager, testified in earlier testimony that “Pirates of the Caribbean” “catapulted him to a whole different level of success.”
“It meant more employees,” Mandela said. “It meant buying extra real estate. … It meant a bigger life and more expensive ”.
“Everything started to change around 2010, and“ over time, it became clear that there were problems with alcohol and drugs, ”Mandela said. “And it resulted in more chaotic behavior, more stressful behavior, more times when I had a hard time getting into the conversations I needed to do my job.”
At one point, Depp spent about $ 100,000 a month on doctors and staff to help him sober up, Mandela said. Otherwise, he spent $ 300,000 a month on staff, he said. And he said there have been cases where Depp has spent thousands of dollars a month on prescription drugs.
“The level of spending has grown very, very, very high and required maintaining this level of incredibly high income,” Mandela said. “And when he fell, the shutdown became unbearable.”
Mandela said in 2015 he became very concerned about Depp’s finances, but Depp met these problems with anger. He said the actor fired him in 2016.
Bruce Whitkin, a musician who has been friends with Depp for nearly 40 years, testified in previously recorded testimony that Depp may have been jealous of his romantic relationship.
Hurd demonstrated this jealousy when she was filming “or doing something he couldn’t be around to see what was going on,” Whitkin said. “I think it would work.”
Vitkin said he once saw bruises on Hurd’s arm when he and Depp were working on a documentary about Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. And he once saw Depp with a “fat lip.” But Whitkin said he had never seen Depp or heard of each other being physically abused.
Whitkin said he tried to help Depp with addiction and linked him to a therapist.
“He said, ‘I’m going to be fine.’ “I’ll be fine,” said Whitkin, recalling the conversation. – Well, you’re not all right.
Depp’s sister, Christy Dembrowski, has always been concerned about his well-being, both in terms of drug abuse and in general, Witkin said.
“I think everyone was deep down, but … people on salaries have little to say. They will try, but do not want to lose their jobs, ”Vitkin said. “I’m not saying they all fall into that category. But around people like him is weird. Everyone wants something. “
Whitkin said his friendship with Depp began to break up in late 2017 when the actor began to break away.
“He wrote me this strange text that said I stabbed him in the back and scolded him,” Whitkin said. “And I say,‘ What are you saying? And he did not explain it. And I have hardly seen him since 2018. “
