AUSTIN, TX — October 1st is just two days away, and why not celebrate it with a great show? Longhorn City Limits is slated to kick off with the Austin, Texas native as the headliner. Grammy Award-winning rap superstar Nelly will heat up the stage at the LBJ Lawn. Presented by Still Austin Whiskey, the concert is free to all.

American History makes Nelly the fourth best-selling rapper, having sold over 21 million albums in the US. His career began in 1993 with the Midwestern hip-hop group St. Lunatics. In the 2000s, his music became very popular with the release of “Country Grammar”, which placed him at #1 on the Billboard Top 200. In 2016, he went diamond with his album “Country Grammar” and the song “Cruise” from Florida Georgia Line.

His Nellyville album, including the fan-favorite hits “Hot in Here” and “Dilemma” featuring Kelly Rowland, was certified 6x Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. In 2009, Billboard ranked him #3 among the top artists of the decade.

Nelly has since won several American Music Awards, a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award, a Soul Train Music Award, an MTV Video Music Award, and was named Billboard’s “Top Pop, Rap & R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year.”

“The crowd at Longhorn City Limits has been phenomenal for the first three games,” said Chris Del Conte, vice president and director of athletics. “We are thrilled to welcome Nelly, one of the leading artists of the millennium, to The Forty Acres on October 1st and can’t wait for Longhorn Nation to be part of a record-breaking crowd at LCL.”

Fans can access the LBJ Lawn at 3 p.m., while Nelly prepares to take the stage at 5 p.m. The opening will be announced later. Silent Disco will return for the aftershow. Three DJs will be kicking off their sets, and fans in attendance will be given a pair of wireless headphones and a choice of three different channels.

If you’re of drinking age, treat yourself to some new grown-up drinks.

“Upon entering the LBJ Lawn, fans are invited to visit the Still Austin Music Lounge, which offers a full beverage menu, including Horns Up’s signature bourbon lemonade on ice, and relax in a shaded area while enjoying the show. Fans won’t want to miss the surprises and limited-edition merchandise curated by Still Austin Whiskey Co, a homegrown distillery that uses 100% Texas grain,” according to a press release from the University of Texas at Austin staff.

Tito’s Tailgate will be open to anyone looking for shade to watch live college football and enjoy their cocktails on tap. Staba’s BBQ will also be on hand for diners to grab a bite to eat.

The Longhorns are scheduled to face West Virginia.
