Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed John R. Rutherford a member of the Board of Trustees of the Texas Pension System (ERS) for a term ending August 31, 2024. The board oversees the state pension system for employees and retirees of Texas government agencies and others. In addition to retirement benefits, ERS provides health insurance to some employees and retirees.

John R. Rutherford from Houston – self-employed, former head of energy and finance. He is a part-time senior advisor to ECP GP and is a member of the board of directors of Enterprise Product Partner, LP In addition to more than 30 years of experience in energy and finance, he previously worked as an accountant. Rutherford is a member of the Executive Board of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Energy Center at the University of Texas at Austin and is an active volunteer for the Marine Corps Foundation and the Marine Fellowship Foundation. He used to be the executive director of the Coalition for a Fair and Open Port. Rutherford earned a bachelor’s degree in business arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in business administration in finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
