BEXAR COUNTY – A woman being held in the Bexar County Jail on arson charges is facing new charges after she tried to escape Saturday morning, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:18 a.m., Genevieve Golden was apprehended by BCSO deputies after she attempted to escape from jail.

Deputies say Golden waited for the unit’s officer to complete his visual checks and return to the station before she ran.

The 38-year-old inmate ran to the back of her block and hacked the emergency exit as she ran out.

An officer who witnessed the inmate damaging the door called code 2 and ran after her. Golden was taken into custody without incident outside her unit.

BCSO says Golden never left the secure perimeter of the Jail Annex facility and remained in the secure area.

Golden has since been transferred to a detention center pending an additional escape charge, BCSO said.

All prisoners were moved to the ward with the broken door.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is investigating this incident, while the Internal Affairs Division and Public Integrity Division are also conducting their own separate but concurrent investigations.
