OAK BLUFFS, Mass. – A man who had a short but key role in “Jaws” as a child was appointed chief of police on the island of Massachusetts, where part of the 1975 film.
Last week, Jonathan Searle was offered the post of chief of police at Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard.
“I am clearly delighted, and I am humbled and honored to have been offered this position,” said Searle, who is currently a sergeant of Edgartown Police, at the Vineyard Gazette, which first announced the appointment.
At the heart of the film is the efforts of a police chief in a fictional resort town who is trying to rid local waters of a killer shark. Scenes were filmed at various locations on Martha’s Vineyard.
In the film, Searle played one of two boys who panic on the beach while swimming around with a fake shark fin.
Searle, whose father was chief of police in Edgartown, will take over the post at Oak Bluffs next month.
